nCoV-19: A Chinese product
There are questions whether the nCoV-19 can actually be called the Chinese virus. The president of the US recently addressed the virus as 'a Chinese virus' knowing that the outbreak originated in the Chinese province of Hubei. Currently, China observes higher recovery rates with a dip in new cases and deaths whereas countries like the US and Italy take the lead in the highest number of infected people. People from 199 countries have been infected. China took the situation for granted, economies and people's lives across the globe have paid the price. Naming it the 'Chinese' virus should come with no surprise.
While most countries have taken significant steps to stop the invasion some have lost the war due to inadequate decisions taken by their government. A hundred thousands of people battle out the disease as thousands have already lost their lives. The numbers suggest how significant lives have been wiped out of their demographics. Comparably the economy of most businesses has been destroyed. Large companies that solely depend on the sale of luxurious products do not have sustainable markets since their profits have been null. Smaller markets for essentials such as groceries, food, pharma, toiletries and others stand to benefit, but the damage has been done. Scientific research in the field is also progressing but at a much slower rate than the spread of the virus. Vaccine trials are underway and are the need of the hour. Images of their morphology have been obtained using TEM (Transmission electron microscopy) and studied. The structure of their spike and coat proteins have been resolved using Crystallography and Cryo-EM methods. Bioinformatics studies have commented on the origin and nature of the virus. These studies suggest that the virus has mutated naturally from a living organism rather than being constructed in a lab as a biological weapon.
A direct consequence of the outbreak is lesser people on the streets and well, everywhere. While most people drift back to their folks and rejoice in the company of their loved ones mother earth takes a deep breath that she has been longing for since the birth of the industrial civilization. This brings popular concerns such as climate change, ozone depletion and much other environmental stress to a still. Governments and people will take time to heal, nature will expand its territories and there will be praise for the viral outbreak that took lives and also resurrected the world.
